Music Monday for 06.22.2020

Mondays are for music around here, and this week’s theme at Monday’s Music Moves Me is “Songs from around the world in honor of World Music Day”, courtesy of Michele from Musings and Merriment with Michele. What a great theme! I’ll be putting my own spin on “world music” by selecting songs from bands from around the world instead of from the actual world/global music genre.

From Ireland, Van Morrison – “These Are The Days”
Is there ever really a bad time for Van Morrison?

From Brazil, Sepultura – “Roots Bloody Roots”
Love the percussion in this one!

From Finland, Apocalyptica (featuring Gavin Rosedale of Bush) – “End Of Me”
Metal with cellos!

From Jamaica, Bob Marley – “No Woman No Cry”
Reggae is very world-music-appropriate, right?

What music from around the world do YOU love? Be sure to head over to Dolly’s to see what the other participants are listening to and maybe contribute your own post while you’re there.

Oh, and I also have a winner for my 06.15.2020 Battle of the Bands if you’re interested!

I can’t get past These are the Days. The Van Morrison song is just brilliant. Thanks for sharing what is probably the best single piece of music I will hear all day. Have a blessed week.

You have a blessed day as well! I know my musical tastes aren’t to everyone’s, but I’m glad I snuck something in that you liked!

  2. Kim,

Van Morrison rocks! The Brazilian band was too heavy for my taste. I enjoyed the Finnish rock band. A little reggae wraps your mewsic picks up nicely. Thanks for boogieing with the 4M crew today, my friend. Have a lovely week!

Great pickins’ girlfriend for sure! Not that I’ve ever heard it before, because I have NOT heard Van Morrison do this one, and I love it. Definitely going to have to copy this one. Brazil, Sepultura – “Roots Bloody Roots”, can’t say I ever heard this one either… sorry, but it’s truly different I might add! hmmmm Apocalyptica – End of Me (Videoclip) ft. Gavin Rossdale nope can’t say I never heard this one either. Did you have a different kind of radio than me? hehehehe! It’s okay… just a different era sweetie. Sounds like you have good taste in music just different times… you know what I mean. Okay, what else ya got??? OKAY NOW MARLEY – LOVE HIM & love no woman, no cry and love to dance to this one too! Great pickin’!!! YOU’VE ROCKED THE HOUSE GIRLFRIEND! HUGS

Aw, thanks! Hugs I tried to throw a mix in because I knew not everyone would like my Sepulture selection, and I get that! But I saw an opportunity to be true to my love of metal with this theme. And I LOVE the percussion in Roots. Apocalyptic also has some all-cello (no vocals) versions of metal songs as well. I don’t know why I didn’t opt for one of those, but probably because I love Gavin Rossdale! I am glad I managed to get a few up that you knew and loved!

  4. Bob Marley is always appropriate. Van Morrison’s song made me cry. Now, the Brazilian Roots Bloody Roots, that would be right at home on Sirius XM’s Octane – my husband likes that kind of stuff. Apocalyptica, I haven’t listened to in a long time. There are a couple of their songs I really enjoy. Nice “music of other lands” playlist.

A few of Van Morrison’s songs always make me cry – or get a little choked up. I had to throw in a bit of metal to balance out Morrison and Marley! I am glad you liked the selections!
